3rd Birthday Motherload

We had a very fun birthday lunch for Nick on Sunday.  Between Mass and a tournament playoff game, we managed to squeeze in some Dino Party Fun!

The girls and I challenged ourselves to make a Dino Cake using rolled fondant and modeling gum paste figures.  We got the idea off the web at Beautiful Kitchen.  Maria was in charge of coloring, rolling, and modeling the gumpaste and  fondant, Monica baked the triple layer vanilla cake, and I did the shopping and wrapped the cake in fondant.  I think Maria did an awesome job with the little dinosaurs!  Who knew playing with Play-Doh would reap such culinary benefits!  I found all of the printables for free online.  You can find this theme and many more at this site.

For the lunch, we had dino-shaped chicken pieces, dinosaur horns (Bugles), dino pop, mini cupcakes, and chocolate rocks.

Grandma Carol and Grandpa Ben visited later that evening to drop off gifts and chat.  The birthday boy was sporting his new train conductor duds while he played with his birthday toys.

Here are a few action shots of Maria during the basketball game.  They hustled and won this game in a shut out.  Tonight's game was played hard, but her team lost by 1 POINT!!!!  Oh, well....better luck next year.

50th Anniversary Cookies

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  I hope so because I'm too tired to post anymore.
Here are 2 photos in case one doesn't speak loudly enough!

Deacon Inquiry: Preliminaries

Phew!  What a day.  I woke up this morning thinking, "Should I bling myself out for the inquiry session?  Should I wear a skirt?  Boy, I'm glad I had my nails done last weekend!"  How very superficial of me, but I really wanted to make a good impression.  After running around getting the boys to school, Jane to preschool, and getting a prescription filled for a dear friend who needed drugs QUICK after her day of surgery yesterday; I packed my lunch, ate while driving, and met Paul at the St. Paul Seminary.  I was frustrated that I arrived leaving my lipstick in my car, and I forgot to change into a skirt.  I waltzed in with my jeans and black Danskos!  Ugh!

Well, that's my life.....very busy, very full, and very blessed.

The session went well.  I think.  It's hard to tell what they're thinking because it comes down to discernment.  Even if we seem to be good candidates for the Diaconate, it has to be God's will for it all to come to fruition.  The interviewers (yes, there were 2) asked about our backgrounds, apostolic work, spiritual history, spiritual tendencies, family life, and married life.  They pressed fairly hard, but we were told the next round we'll be pressed even harder.

I love Paul, and I love the Lord.  For my part, I think that sums it up!  I could go on and on giving examples to prove my love for both, but I won't.  My life has to speak for itself.  If you know me, you know the discernment I went through from 19-24.  And if you've kept up with my blog, you can get a pretty good idea how I've embraced my vocation from 24-39.  Now it's just a matter of waiting....waiting on the Lord.  Time will tell what happens and how it will happen.  I have so many unanswered questions.  Questions are coming from all over the place.....the interviewers, friends, other couples, myself, and Paul.

I've found that God answers questions with time.  So now I'm going to get busy and wait.

Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real: Red and White

Pretty

It snowed most of the day yesterday and drizzled and rained.  We woke up to another Winter Wonderland.  This one was especially pretty because the snow froze on all of the tree branches.  Don't you think Mr. Tumnus might come trotting down this path?

Happy and Funny

Lucas made a Valentine for me which made me so happy!  He made it at school.  The inside reads:

¡Te amo a la luna y de regreso!
Con Amor,
Lucas

Translation:  I love you to the moon and back!

With Love,
Lucas

Real

This is the pond at the park near our house.  It's frozen and snow covered....real, but sometimes hard to believe!  And yes, those are tracks where people have been walking over to the "island."

Monica also made Valentine cookie treats for her Composition class.  They were going to have a little party to celebrate the day.  We managed to get all 12 into this cute little box!  The striped and flowered boxes are teacher treats.

See more contentment over at Leila's!

Pancake Tuesday: The Feast Before the Fast

Pancakes cooked on a cast iron skillet....

and freshly squeezed orange juice....

and a Lenten calendar that's ready to go!

I used the New Testament Cricut Cartridge that the kids gave me for Christmas 2011.  I LOVE IT!!!!! I also used the Inspired Heart Cricut Cartridge which has been a favorite, too.

A Fun Sunday Surprise.....

for all mothers!

Paul pointed out to me yesterday a fun and light-hearted write up of Minnesota Mom blogger, Margaret.  She's a great gal, a good writer, and just had her 7th baby!  Good for her, for her family, and for building the kingdom.

She gives hope to many moms....this one included.  I admire her faith, courage, and perseverance with all that God seems to be sending her way.

You can see the article at this link.  It's very affirming to see a Catholic Mom of Many get some well-deserved recognition for her efforts!

Congratulations, Minnesota Mom!
