7 Quick Takes: New News

-1-

I have to post these cute little pics of my brothers rental car.  He was surprised when he picked it up last week.  The kids all wanted to see it, but only Maria was able to because the other kids had classes.

-2-

Maria took these cute pictures of Nick.  I can't remember when, but they are adorable.  I also can see now who has been playing ding-dong-ditch at my front door!!

-3-

We finally adopted a dog from Coco's Heart Dog Rescue.  They are a great animal rescue group here in the cities.  Ferbie is a Bichon Frise/Shitzu mix.  He is 2 years old and is adjusting well after a rocky weekend.  He's now been with us a week.

Gabe had his first school fundraiser this morning.  His class did a Crazy Run around the school track wearing crazy hats.  Gabe wore a fish hat we found at our local thrift store.

We went along to cheer him on!

Ready, set....

GO!!!!!

He ran...

and ran....

and then walked!

Then he had a snack from the PTA...popcorn and a bottle of water.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd starts next week for us.  I am super excited this year because I'm also taking the Level 1 Training.  After my training I will work for 2 years in the atrium at St. Francis Cabrini.  After that, I'll be set to work in any atrium in the Cities if I need or want to.  This is a dream I've had for a while so I'm glad I'm finally realizing it.

I'm now down to my maintenance weight!!!  It took almost 3 months to lose those last 10 lbs., but I am finally there!!  I feel great, I'm now a size 6 and am back to a healthy, normal weight for my height, age, and frame.  It feels so good.  People keep telling me that I don't look like I've had 7 kids.  Well, I think it's a great tool for evangelization and the Pro-Life cause.  Yes, you can have a large family,  be fit & active, and NOT own a pair or two of Spanx.  ¡Si se puede!

-7-

I've been baking tons to keep up with the kids' snacks.  Studying, homework, and classes make them so hungry around 10:30AM and 3:00PM.  Caramel Apple, Chocolate Chip, and Pumpkin Muffins, Banana/Chocolate Chip Bread, and Apple Bread have been baked a ton over the last two weeks.  I may have to do one more round of tomato canning this weekend.  For that, I'll have to get in the Zone!  I'm looking forward to getting back to baking more honey oatmeal bread and having pizza dough ready to go in the fridge.  I'll be using PW's recipe.  Here it is if you don't have it.

7 Quick Takes: Back to School Edition

1.  We made it through our first "official" week of school.  I did lots of driving, but it went serenely and peacefully!  I know.  I'm delusional.

2.  Gabe received this little update from his teacher letting us know how the week went.

Esta semana mi comportamiento fue:
Does she know I call him, "My angel, Gabiel?"

3.  Translation - The angel face means your child had no problems, did not need to change his/her card at all and did not need any breaks.  There's a card?  What kinds of breaks would they need or get?  I obviously have questions.

4.  Monica started at ARCHES and YEAH and had her second week of online Latin with Memoria Press.  She also started soccer with the parish school kids.  She's happy to be on the senior varsity team!  GO CHARGERS!!

5.  Maria started up with her new flute teacher and continued with her Latin group.  She made it a point to tuck a "PRAY BEFORE EATING!" note into Gabe's lunch box a couple days this week.  She's determined this school will not make a heathen out of her little brother!

6.  I am still smiling after hearing Cardinal Dolan's benediction at the DNC.  Was that awesome, or was that awesome?   OK, it was awesome!!!!

7.  We had crazy weather today!  When we woke up it was cold and rainy.  Then it was hot and sunny by lunchtime.  Then it cooled off and was breezy.  It warmed back up around 3-4:30PM.  I opened windows and turned on the oven to make homemade pizza for dinner.  When I finally went out again at 6PM to take Molly to soccer practice, it was freezing again!  It even rained a bit in that short amount of time.  What gives?  Minnesota weather is so crazy sometimes.

First Day Back.....

to driving around like a mad woman!

I knew I just had to jump right in....with both feet that is.  I was skeptical about how it all would work to get 3 of the 7 kids to 3 different places this morning.  But we decided to start things off right by going to 7:30AM Mass.  That's right, folks.  We got up at the b*** crack of dawn and headed over to our local parish.  Which by the way, is a very nice and quiet place with a smattering of 60+ year olds.  It was absolute bliss because Nick did very well.  (He was probably still asleep!!!)  That's ok.  I'll take that!

Anyway, I haven't taken back to school pictures of the rest of the kids.  But Gabe's was precious because he really did have a first day of school...."real" school!

A week ago....yes, a week ago....we decided to send Gabe to a Spanish Immersion School in a neighboring suburb.  Crazy, I know!  However, it's always been a dream of ours to send at least one of our kids if not all of them to a school where they could learn to speak Spanish fluently.  Only recently, language immersion schools have popped up all over the cities.  This one is closest to our house so I jumped on it when I heard about it.  I had checked into the possibility in June, but because of the busy-ness of summer, it fell off my plate.  I finally followed up with the principal at the school last week.  He was more than happy to have Gabe join the program.

It's not without its downsides.  The school is housed in a building that also hosts an Intermediate and Middle School.  It's a public school.  There are no uniforms.  It's a full day away from home.  However, we're going to give it a shot and see if we can do this as a family.

He came home beaming because of the friends he made.  He was also super happy to see us.  It was amazing to see the innocence in his eyes as I chatted with him about the day.

We'll just see how it goes....nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Minnesota State Fair

We boast the largest State Fair in the country, we call it the Great Minnesota Get Together, we set aside 12 days of fair-y fun, and we delay the start of school until after the fair is over on Labor Day.  We do all of this because we LOVE.....

We had an incredibly fun time at this year's State Fair.  Until next year....

Buh-Bye!!
