Lucas wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Lucas's godmother gave him a lights and sounds Christmas tree. He loves it! Here he is playing along with the tune, "We Wish you a Merry Christmas," on his little piano. I cried, I laughed so hard when I saw this. Note he's very serious!

Classically Trained Contrast

Here are a few of pics:

1) The kids doing drama practice downstairs. They rewrote a fable, Monica is directing, and Molly & Lucas are acting in the short skit.
2) The flat screen TV that just arrived this morning.

Daddy and I got a kick out of what's important to the kids around here!!

Texas Girl Goes Natural

All I ever wanted to know about "natural" anything was the color of a bluebonnet and, maybe, how to recognize the calls of a Mockingbird. But, now, they've got me! The nutrition gurus and naturopaths that be have slowly crept into my life! Here's a pic of me eating my gluten-free breakfast and holding my supplements: Pro-5, cercumin extract, cruciferous complete, and I had a teaspoon of cod liver oil after I ate my eggs. Interesting.;)

Christmas Cookie Decorating

Here's a quick video of my cookie decorating last evening. I had to quick finish up a dozen to pack with two other diaper boxes full of cookies. These are going to a friend of mine in Seattle who is undergoing chemo treatments for breast cancer. Her next treatment is Dec. 22...3 days before Christmas.:( Keep her in your prayers!

Baby Jane

Here's a little video Daddy took of Baby Jane last evening. She's really waking up to the world!:)

Feast of St. Nicholas

The night of Dec. 5th is always a frenzy at our house to get shoes out for St. Nicholas's visit that night. Here are a few pics of the shoes, the gifts, and the smiles.

Ice Skating

Here are a couple pics of the girls skating on the neighbor's pond. Tom grooms the pond behind his house every year for hockey parties. He invited us over to skate. Daddy took the older girls twice. I guess all the roller blading they did this summer paid off. Last winter, they were very shaky, but this winter....watch out Hans Brinker and your silver skates!!

Christmas Cookie Fun on The Side

OK...turn your laptops on their sides to view this one! Something happened when Daddy shot this video with our camera, and this is how it turned out. We've been trying to edit it and flip it over to no avail.:(

Anyway, this is what we did Sunday! Happy Advent!!

Paul commented last evening that he loved the little "lovewich" I made for his lunch. Lovewich? That's how new words come into the dictionary all the time! Anyway, he explained that it was the best white bread sandwich he's ever eaten. I made it with provolone cheese and even put lettuce in...oh, and I mixed mayo and spicy brown mustard for his condiment. I don't ever buy white bread, but I did for a recipe that I didn't end up making. I felt so bad to make a sandwich for Paul from the bread so I decided to put a little more effort into it than just PB&J.

Anyway, there you have it....a lovewich!

Autumn Leaves

The leaves were just gorgeous a couple weeks ago. After a few days of cooler weather and rain, we've just about lost all the leaves now. It was great to take walks around the pond near our home and take these fall pictures. I think Fall is my favorite season because of the colors and smells.:)

Homeschooling Activities

Here are a few pics of two of our homeschooling activities. Of course, our history book is written by a woman who is raising 3 boys and 1 girl so our crafts are usually very boy-oriented. Here, the girls are timing themselves to see how fast they can load a traditional rifle v. an Enfield rifle (I made these mock versions with paper towel tubes, flour, and wax paper....don't ask!). The other pic, is of them sporting their Second Reich pikelhaubes from 1871 during the time of Wilhelm II and Otto Von Bismarck. Paul let us use his baseball caps to make the helmet bases. We then attached the spikes and eagle emblems.

Oh, the fun just doesn't stop!;)

My Pitch for Election '08

OK, I was not going to do this, but I found these pics of us at the McCain/Palin Rally here in the Cities. We took all four girls and Paul snapped the pic. It was a zoo, but very energizing to say the least.

Lucas's 4th Birthday

We've been so busy with school and other activities that I'm backed up on blogging. Here are a few pics of Lucas's 4th birthday. This was back at the beginning of the month. He's grown so much!

Where Have We Been?

We've had massive computer problems. We're actually still trying to sort everything out.:( Unfortunately, most of our pictures are in cyber-purgatory awaiting to be released from a bad system back-up. So as for posting pics of the State Fair, our vacation, and updates of Baby Jane; I'll just have to wait on that.:(

On a lighter, happier note, we are almost successfully done with our 3rd week of school. Tomorrow is field trip day so we'll be heading out to the Minneapolis Institute of Art to see a few galleries showcasing Impressionist paintings. Ooooo!

My next post is something I wanted to publish over the weekend. I forgot how much I love Top 10 lists until I got caught up with David Letterman while on vacation!!

Ciao for now! And it's good to be back!

Back to School

Well, we're up for another year of homeschooling. The kids were up and ready this morning early! Molly, our eager little Kindergartener, was up first. It was a good day, everyone was excited, and very cooperative.

We'll see how long the enthusiasm lasts, but for now, I'll take it!!

Update: I still have pics from the State Fair and our vacation up north to download and post. Thanks for the patience. With starting school again, I've been so busy organizing, making copies, and just plain getting ready. I hope to catch up soon!!

Actually, Daddy took a few pics tonight and on Saturday. He took the kids for an outing all day on Saturday so I could have my teacher inservice. HaHa!

IKEA...a good IDEA?

I ventured down south of the cities to IKEA with Paul today....with all the kids!!

It was a wee fest to say the least. After I got over the initial shock of all the Swedish names, the inside grocery store, and the fact that we could all eat lunch there for 20 bucks; I quickly told Paul to check on whether the childcare room had a charge. After 10 minutes of quietly being alone while Paul checked out childcare, he returned to tell me, "there's a 30 minute wait!"

OK, I gathered up my energy and got over my embarassment of Lucas, Molly & Maria playing house in all the rooms of the showroom. We actually came away with some good ideas for storage solutions and a potential bench for our eat-in kitchen.

So maybe next time I'll get a sitter....now that's a good IDEA!

They're Getting Really Good at This!

Here are pics of the girls during and after they finished a birthday gift for a friend. The party is this afternoon so we've been working to make two Disney Princess pillowcases for the birthday girl and her sister. We went for the original gift this year!! Monica and Maria did an awesome job with the sewing!;)

Phantom of the Horse Op'ry

Monica spent 3 days a week for 4 weeks practicing with other kids in the area for a performance of "The Phantom of the Horse Op'ry" through our local kids' community theater program. She loved it! She played a saloon/chorus gal and a lady in the town. The play is a comedic-melodrama which is a spoof on the Phantom of the Opera. We were all surprised at how she hammed it up that evening and was very vocal and expressive for the performance. Here are a few pics.

Molly and Lucas have been doing soccer drills with other 3,4, and 5 year olds every Monday evening since June. We have 3 Mondays left!!! Paul and I rotate weeks to stand there with all the other parents cheering on the little accomplishments they do in the 45 minutes we are there like: participating!, actually kicking the ball, putting the balls down to warm up or do other drills, running in the same direction as the other kids, and making it through the entire time without having to go to the bathroom (because that eats up at least 15 minutes!).

At least they are having fun doing this!

Plays Nicely With Others

I have to get excited when the older four kids play nicely together. Socialization occurs on a daily basis, but whether it is positive...well, sometimes I have to rejoice when it is!

Jane's Baptism Day

Here is a slide show of the pics taken on the day of Jane's Baptism. It was a beautiful day. We had great weather and good food. It was nice to have so many family members present to enjoy this awesome event beginning Jane's life in our family.:)

Auntie Nora's visit

Here are a few pics of Auntie Nora's visit. It was a lot of fun to have her here, and we all had a great time visiting and hanging out. We finally got the camera out on the day she was leaving. Paul decided to grill and display his proudly grilled brats for the occassion.:)
