Currently, we're reading The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. The story is about a beautiful china rabbit (Edward Tulane) that is lost at sea and endures a miraculous journey back into the arms of the little girl who loved him before he was lost. I read a couple short chapters to Molly & Lucas this afternoon before the little daughter of a neighbor came over while my neighbor went to a doctor's appt. While the kids were putting their shoes on to go outside, I heard this exchange:
Molly: We're reading about a bunny that fell into the ocean.
Macy (our neighbor's daughter): Really?
Mommy: Yes, it's a story about a beautiful rabbit that rudely gets tossed overboard and is lost at sea.
Molly: Yes, he's with Davy Jones.
Mommy: Davy Jones? (I was shocked that Molly even knows about Davy Jones!)
Molly: Yes, Davy Jones took Edward just like he took Daddy's sunglasses!
It's all making sense now! On our trip to Cancun, Daddy lost his sunglasses one afternoon when we were playing in the water. The waves were terribly crazy, I toppled over, Daddy reached to pull me up, and we saw his glasses get knocked off his face and gone forever. Of course, Daddy told Molly, "Argh, me sunglasses went down to Davy Jones' locker!"
Poor little gal will probably never trust the sea! And, of course, I laughed hysterically at how this little pistol (Molly) has an interesting number of thoughts that fill her 3-year-old brain!
